I am currently running v11.5 on a server with a VLDB database. I plan on installing v12 SP1 onto another server and stop using the v11.5. I also want to use the SQL database format. I have migrated ARCserve before by installing and copying over the database files from the previous system, but I always kept the same database type.

Would it be best to upgrade my v11.5 to v12 on the older server and then move those database files to the new server after I have installed v12 on the new server.

or

Should I install v12 on the new server and then run the Bconfig.exe on the old server and convert to SQL and then copy those files to the new server. I only have MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2. I assume that Bconfig will work with this.

Thanks for help.

you have to upgrade first, then move the installation. Bconfig will not help you converting the existing vldb to MSSQL2005 Express, this is part of the upgrade process.
