I honestly have never done a server migration before now.

We are buying a new server that will have SBS 2011 (64bit). We currently have a server with windows server 2003 R2 (32bit).

What tools are out there that I can use to make sure the AD, Files, Printers, etc can be migrated over? All the information I found thus far is pointing me to SBS to SBS migrations.

IMHO, my business should have had SBS 2003 when they started the server but they didn't. They used OEM Windows Server 2003, maybe it was cheaper? This is part of the reason we are in the mess we are in now. They didn't have a clue really as to what they were doing. Granted I am not super Network Admin, I am, at best, a Junior Network Admin. I am done with my thoughts. I look forward to your response.

You will want to follow the initial steps of the SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 migration doc. That will make the SBS 2011 server a DC in the existing domain.

From there you are able to migrate files and applications per the document. Unlike SBS 2003 migrations, you will NOT have the problem of a 21 day window, so you can keep your old server in production as a DC for as long as you like.

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Mark
