We lease our servers, and the lease on our server that runs our Share Point 3.0 services is up. The way that our servers are set up, we have 1 server that handles the front end while our SQL server hosts the wss database. All I need to do is get the front end web stuff moved from the old server to the new server, nothing needs to be done to the database. For the life of me I can't figure it out. Does anyone have a good step-by-step or Q# for how to migrage this?

Thanks in advance.

Adding a new front-end should be pretty easy (in theory).

Here are the steps I would try..

Bring the server up with Windows / IIS
Install WSS 3.0 on the server
Run install for WSS
Choose to add it to a farm and let it install
Once the SharePoint Configuration Wizard appears tell it to connect to your farm. Give it the proper central admin DB name and db server name.
In Central Admin, update Alternate Address Mappings as needed for the new server, or point DNS to this new front-end.
Take the original server off-line and test

That should be it. 100% of the data is stored in the DB, and unless you customized Web.Configs or Templates, no files really should have to be movedd from 1 web server to the other

That's what I thought at first. Should be easy, all the info is stored in the DB. Didn't work that smoothly though. I've tried so many different things, I don't remember what issues we had when we tried that (it was the first thing we tried). Something didn't go right, but I don't remember what. I'll have to try it again and let you know what bombs.
Thanks for the post!
