Having the same issues as Fisher (well - similar). Get PDfs and fonts aren't really embedded - have to open in PS and save as JPEGs. Latest case is from a graphic design firm (comment reserved). Quark doesn't recognize PDF so won't get as pix. Open in Illustrator - save as EPS - get pix in Quark and it can't see the text. Open in PS and save as JPEG - text is all fuzzy - and they have the word "Sharp" in the ad - so I emailed back and asked for original AI file. I use "Get Pix" to get EPS - and still no text. I think I need to flatten before I "get pix". Design firm - why don't they know that? And I am feeling all stupid because I have no formal education in this field. AND - they have hangers on! (The stuff that overlaps the board - which as we all know cause Itchy told us is easily rid of.) My rant - sorry.

So if flatten doesn't work? What next? I am NOT gonna email the pros again and tell them their file kinda reeks :)

What did you just say I said?

Confused in Colorado

FYI I have never felt any qualms about calling professionals to tell them their file blows as long as it was called for. Just make sure you've got your factual and terminology ducks in a row before you do.

I think you have plenty of reasons to rant [smile]

"Pros" as with any vocation is a relative term. I am on the designer end -- not your end -- but try VERY hard to do everything asked for in specs. I figure that is part of MY job. That being said I have seen things on their way to the printer from large companies that don't even begin to conform to what the printers have asked for. I have been known to mention that to the bosses. I think those designers should be paying more attention and getting off thier "horses". Luckily I am in a position where I can say so. In order for you to do your job correctly, they need to do THEIRS.

Don't get caught up the the "pro" thing. It if it not sent to you correctly, they need to fix it! This is assuming that you had specs they were supposed to follow of course [wink].
