I have a rather new computer. Sony VAIO Digital Sudio and ever since I got it, the only problem I have is with the sound card. I hate to take it back for such a simple problem. I feel I should be able to fix this, but don't know where to start since it has never happened to me before. My sound card plays ever type of sound wav and type perfectly until it hits a midi file on a webpage and it gets all jumpy and skips. Since I don't like midi files, it didn't seem to be a problem, but lately it is really bugging me. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this little idiosycracy of this sound card.
I have Win XP and the sound card says SoundMax Integrated digital Audio and Legacy Audio Drivers.

Contacting Sony's Tech Support ppl may give you a simple fix, not requiring you to "take back" the computer. Especially for such a "simple problem".
Try playing a midi file you downloaded and that's present on your hard drive. See if it skips. You may just be experiencing the effects of "streaming"...which is a herky-jerky proposition, anyway.
In your shoes, I'd turn down video acceleration a notch or 2 and try it.
After I contacted Sony TS.

How did you finally solve the problem with the midi files skipping when playing? The reason I ask is that I have the same problem with my Sony VAIO PCV-RX650 that I purchased new almost two years ago. I do not know if it came from the store O.K. or not. When I started loading various business and personal software programs, I messed up twice and had to restore the computer each time from the CDs that came with the computer. It was not until months later that I discovered the midi sound problem.

I didn't actually "fix" my problem (and I do have the exact same computer model you have by the way)...but I suspect Sony found the bug and fixed it with that Sony Update that is part of the computer. Do you have your Sony Update enabled or shut off? If so, enable it and get the recent updates and then shut it off again if it bugs you. :)
