I have a customer with a PRI entering their MICS. They have reported a few times now that sometimes (not always) they will try to call out and when they hit the last digit, the call drops, their line button LCD disappears and the phone returns to 'on-hook' status.

We have been there several times and the programming looks fine (as far as we can see). The LEC has looked at every angle of the PRI.

I suspect it's the Norstar, due to the fact that the phone just hangs up on them, but not totally sure.

Any ideas?

test all channels one at a time. 23 on pri, see if you can pin point one channel.

Easier said than done. It's intermittent (maybe a couple times a week) and it only happens early in the morning.

It's going to make it hard unless I meet them there extra early each day, which I just may have to. If I do, I'll definitely check each channel then.

What sw level is the KSU at? You may have that trouble with anything before 6.1MR (3rd revision).

I'd suggest upgrading to 7.0, or 7.1.

They're at 5.0. Do you know of any documentation from Nortel that could back that up? Not sure if my customer wants to spring for an upgrade on something that's not a sure thing. But if there was something official I'm sure they would then.

It's a sure thing if they'll take my word for it.

I've had a couple customers with that exact problem, on both inbound and outbound.

A sw upgrade to 7.x fixed 'em both. The stated tested problem is specifically with the Nortel DMS100 switch at the CO, but I've had the same trouble with other newer VOIP switching provided by CO's.

I'm sure someone here will have a link to the Nortel post.
