Okay here it goes! I have worked on Lucent/Avaya at my work locations and moved a while back. Now my new enviornment is Norstar and Meridian.

I have a Norstar DR5. What is the difference between all of these terms I see being thrown around? CIC/MIC/etc.

I am now trying to learn the ins and outs of Norstar and Meridian and am starting from scratch. Can someone give me the rundown on the productlines and the benefits and draw backs of them. Thanks!

The following is from memory (definitely random access!)

DR5 is the software level for older Norstar systems. This is aavailable on the 308, 616, and 824. The 824 could be expanded to a larger capacity using expansion modules. DR5 is required for full voicemail compatibility, DS (disconnect supervision) cabinet strongly recommended.

CICS = compact ICS. Starts out at minimum 4x8 and can be expanded to 8x24 depending on software level. Compatible with all current production Norstar voicemails.

MICS = modular ICS. Core cabinet runs 32 extensions. Can run 2 direct T1 or PRI circuits in the core cabinet. Can be expanded to a max of 192 stations with XC software and expansion modules. Latest release 6.0 allows use of a third T1 circuit in an expansion trunk module. Compatible with all current production Norstar voicemails. Brian Cox
