Does anyone know whether a certain WI of 5.0 will loose it's Hospitality programming on loss of power? We can't duplicate the problem on our 5.0, it is WI 6.02. Thanks darnold@americaii.com

tip # 254 nvram memory loss issue. good cartrige starts at NTBB08GA-93 rel 02. this might be a partal explanation if you had upgraded this site to 5.0 . Losing speed dials was not mentioned in this tip but we had corrected a site that kept losing their speed dials at powerdown. It is all a question of what is contained on that cartrige.

Thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated.

Can you email me copy of the ITAS tip #254. Please, and Thank You!

I'll have to see what I can come up with. The version of adobe dosn't even allow me to save the tips to disk. only print them.

err um ahh - no - nortel has changed their website and I can't find this document any longer or any norstar stuff

Westcoster......Don't open the pdf file...right click on it...then choose "save task as" to save the pdf files. That may work. :)

Westcoaster.... I'd love to have a basic interaction flow chart of how programming and memmory actually work on MICS. I seem to be getting a better feel for it. I've seen system IDs change on platforms with down grading. Boy, if I could just kidnap a nortel engineer ... tie him/her down and use a feather to get the scoop on certain MICS issues. Even with all the problems i've seen. It's a great unit, and I'm glad to hear 6.0 may address many of those nagging weak areas. Thanks again for you help. darnold@americaii.com

It's not that I'm having trouble opening them, their not there anymore! where they used to be they are not ( helmsman express ) It almost seams like my profile has changed...

I can't send you the tip because my version of adobe reader does not allow me to copy the files only print them. So here is the readers digest version....
condition:
the nvram is a cartrige used with 4.0 and 4.1 software. when used with 4.1 the nvram provides additional memory locations for the operating data required bu the ksu.
nortel has identified a low instance where power cycling can result in data corruption on the nvram. the only confirmed incidents are with memory locations storing routing code info. resulting in loss of routing code info after a power cycle. ONLY 4.1 systems are affected 4.0 are not affected.
routing code info is not the only data stored on the cartrige
ata settings, trunk configuration parameters( line coding, framing etc ) dti and bri line provisioning, network name programming, hospitality ( all programming ) line pool access code programming, target line appearances, received number length, disa ani and dnis settings, carrier access codes, hunt group programming, and portable credits
new product:
identified by NTBB08GA-93 Rel 02 the enhanced design was in production as of nov 8 2000. exchange process in place till dec 31 2001
basically do a backup of the system programming with a rad, change the cartrige and do a restore and all programming should be in place
disclaimer: I have taken lots of liberty with the wording left lots of info out that I didn't feel was necessary It dosn't substitute for the real thing but I hope it helps [smile]

I have the TIP... basically seems like the unit issues a write command over previous programming upon power cycling. Thanks for what the NVRAM cartridge holds. I apperciate it. darnold@americaii.com

I posted it more for executone's benefit and anyone else interested. sorry for bonging your e mail with every post but I figured if I was typing this out everyone should benefit.
