I have a Microtek E3+ that seems to get stuck at the bottom of the scan. It will go down the page and then just sit and vibrate at the bottom and never come back up. It's like the calibration is off. Is there anything that I can do at home to fix this? I hate to send a 5 year old scanner in to have $100 worth of work done on it when you can buy a new one for the same price.

The first thing to do is consult the manual and perhaps its just a timing issue you can adjust.
Have you made any changes recently to your computer before this started happening? ~Apex1x

I haven't changed anything that I can think off. The timing issue; would that be software related or hardware related? Could a reinstall of the drivers fix things? I couldn't find my driver disk and haven't had a chance to download the 5 disks necessary for install.

Yes! I've had this happen on the E3+. One of my students thought he could improve the resolution by changing the setup. (Mine sounded as if a someone were inside and trying to beat his way out--then lock up.) Play it safe and uninstall and reinstall--making sure it is set for the right number of bits. I think the internal card (E3) ran at 16 bits and the parellel uses 32 bits.

Yes, this could very well be software related.
Reinstall your drivers and make sure your settings are correct.
Perhaps a program you were using elected itself to change some of the scanners settings on ya. ~Apex1x
