Hi, Perhaps too vague a question since I don't know Actuate, but has anyone got a view on how it compares against MicroStrategy.

Well, I don't know much about Actuate either. But according to a friend of mine who worked for both company, these are very different products. Actuate focus on Web presentation, and MSI focus on analysis. You need to pretty much feed Actuate with SQL if you want it to do data warehouseing BI, because it does not have a sophiscated SQL Engine. On the other hand, it does not really care where and what format the report is coming from either. So, you need to be clear about what your users want - more on presentation of canned reports? Or more on BI analysis.

Even on the presentation front Microstrategy has made some strong headway with their introduction of Report Services. I'm sure that there are still some differences but Microstrategy should be able to handle both Bi analysis and WYSIWYG reporting.

Thanks for the replies, I think Actuate is being looked at for web presentation but nobody will admit to this. Like whats been mentioned MSTR has made significant improvements in this area so change for change sake I guess
