Whenever I insert a picture file in a Word document, and I want to use "absolute placement," the picture never lands exactly where it is supposed to. Actually word changes the values I input. For example if I want to place a picture with an absolute position of 3.55 from left margin and 2.00 from top margin, the picture will land at about the 3.05 mark instead of 3.55. If I go to Format picture, layout, advanced, and reset it, it works the second time. This is driving me crazy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks JimMacD

I had a similar problem trying to use different size images for the same size area on a page. I found a solution by creating an object on the original page (i.e: rectangular, circular etc), I then formatted the object to the style of text around it, in most cases "tight", and while in the formatting area select the "lock anchor" tick box.
I now have a page where any and all image areas are preset and I am able to add as much or as little text as I want.As regard the object boxes I can now use the "fill" functions to use an image rather than a standard colour, deselect the image outline and hey presto, an absolute placement of any image anywhere I want on any page. With the "lock anchor" selected the object will stay absolute no matter how much text is added around it.

The other option is to create a text box and place it where you want. Then paste the picture in the text box. You will have a nice border around the picture (or if you don't want one, then you can format the text box as you wish). You can also resize the picture within the text box and the right and bottom text box borders will move based on the resizing.

Hasit,

Thank you! I have been mucking around for about 2 hours trying to work out why a graph copied from excel and pasted into Word 97 in landscape orientation kept on aligning to the left and off the page so half of it disappeared, and couldn't. I used your advice and pasted my data tables (in portrait orientation) and my graphs (in landscape orientation) into text boxes and everything stays where it should. My orientation was prt (break) lnd (break) lnd (break) prt (break) lnd (break) lnd (break) prt (break) lnd (break) lnd (break) prt (break) lnd (break) lnd. (prt = Portrait and lnd = Landscape). The second graph in landscape was always off the page to the left, except for the very last graph in landscape. The first landscape graph was always fine! I still don't know what was happening, and don't have the time to find out. Thank you again.
