I am creating a document in MS Word 2000. I would like the page numbering to begin with 1 on the 4th page. The pages prior to the 4th page are just front matter. I would like the front matter to be numbered using Roman numerals. So the 1st thru 3rd pages would be I, II, III and the 4th page would begin with 1. Can someone instruct me how to accomplish this please?

Thanks,

Richard

Put your insertion point at the bottom of Pg 3.
Click Insert>Break>Next Page. Click anywhere in Pg 3.
Click Insert>Page Numbers>Format.
Select the Roman numeral style you want.
Click OK>OK.
Click anywhere in pg 4.
Click View>Header and footer.
Switch to the footer if need be in order to find where you inserted the page numbers. It should say 4, and the footer should be labeled "Same as Previous." Click the same as previous button to turn this off. Close the footer. Insert page numbers, click format, click start at 1 and select an appropriate format.
