Hello there. I just installed Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 in Windows XP Professional. I noticed that Microsoft VC++ 6.0 is unable to start. So I tried to install Visual Studio Service Pack 5 but still the same error. The error message is:
"Cannot load package 'devdtg' because its internal version number, or the internal version number of one of its components, does not match the version of the Developer Studio Shell"

I have tried to install and unistall several times, even removed the whole folder from my hard drive. Unfortunately, i am still unable to start VC++. :(

ive installed VC++ 6.0 standard edition on 4 or 5 windows XP home and professional OS's, they work fine..

Hi,
Did you ever get to resolve your problem?
Because my case is an exact replica of your troubles.
I installed VS6 (VB and VC++) and i installed
VisualBasicSP4 alone. VB was great. But now that I needed
VC++, each time i run it, i get an error in msdev while starting, and I get the famous "Send Error Report/Dont'Send" something about mem. access violation...etc.
So anyhow, i went online and downloaded the latest SP5 for VS6. now after installation, each time i run vc++ i get the devdtg error.
What can I do??
Please HELP
