I have a dual boot C drive (seperate partitions). The first partition has the office 2003 family on, the second has office 2007 family. All was working okay until Microsoft did updates. Now when I try to open Excel 2003, Word 2003, a dialogue comes up asking for my 2007 disk and follows through saying validation of software fails. Anyone know how I can get round this, my software is legal, I want both office families in use. Thanks

It would really help if the proper wording of the error was mentioned rather than it asks for 2007 CD. Also in this kind of a case it helps to know which product is on the Primary partion. The first partition doen't tell me which one is the rpimary.

Without knowing exactly what's what; here is "A shot in the Dark" (Elke Sommer looked so good in that movie).

Re-install 2003 and see if your computer behaves.

Sorry. The first partition has Windows XP, and Office 2003 family. The second partition has Windows XP and the Office 2007 family.

If I am on the first partition, and open up Excel 2003, a dialogue appears saying my software is not legsl, which is and I have been using and updating for the last 5 years. If I select remind again later, another dialogue opens

Windows installer

The feature you are trying to use is on a CDROM or other removable disk that is not available

Insert the Microsoft Office 2007 disk

This all erupted after an update from MS.

Hope thats clearer, thanks

More information. If I open a spreadsheet, access database or word document then I get no warning dialogues come up?

Chances are MS will do their updates on the primary partion. And that's where it might get it's information as to what's on your system. I would suggest repair office 2003 first, if that doesn't work re-install 2003.

Many thanks. I will try the repair first, however a re-install may cause problems as I think you have to install earlier software first on a drive, although that might only be applicable for two versions on the same partition, don't know.

I tried a repair, however got:

Error 1706 Setup cannot find the required files. Check your network or CD Rom drive. For other potential solutions to this problem see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\1033\Setup.chm

Any ideas, thanks

I believe the repair process requires your install CD to access files; unless you have all the CAB files on your HD, then you could point to it. Microsoft site has various solutions for Error 1706.

Thanks, I retried it with my CD. It went through the process and reported the repair had been done. However when I open Excel, the windows installer comes up asking for my 2007 disk. Last time I allow updates on my pc. Problem is how do I get rid of this??

You can always try a restore to a previous state. Pick a date before the update ocurred.

Go to Start, Programs, Accesories, System tools, System Restore.

I went back 5 days and did a restore, but the installer still comes up looking for a 2007 disk. There must be a file somewhere thats triggering the installer. I went into msconfig and unselected the windows installer. That results in it popping up then going each time an office application is opened. I just hope I have not got to re-install everything on my system.

I uninstalled Office 2003 and then re-installed. It fixed the problem. Many thanks for your help.
