Which is better to run on my Windows 7 laptop, Microsoft Security Essentials or Free Avast? Microsoft Security Essentials says to uninstall all other virus protection or it could cause conflicts.

I just got a warning that a threat existed and Avast is running a scan at the root level. It has found Sys32 Pup-Gen.

Thanks,

Daniel

Blondes or brunettes - same deal, a matter of taste. Nothing is going to protect you 100% but the real determinant is risky behavior, which trumps most security. And yes, only one security product per computer UNLESS it's something like MalwareByte's anti-malware and then you have to tell the other other anti-virus software to explicilty ignore it.

Why don't you look at this an pick your anti-virus:

Microsoft Security Essentials or Free Avast?

Yes.

I run both on several Windows 7 machines and the only conflict is that Windows "Essentials" catches nothing at all but Avast pulls out several "infected" emails every week. (your email address is fair game for every 'scrote' out there if you own a couple of domain names)

Spybot S&D catches any "malware" and browser hijackers that I encounter from time to time while Microft's socalled "Security Essentials" does nothing but applaud from somewhere WELL behind the goal posts.

So for me, M$ 'Security' Essential is little more that the usual 'token gesture' from the usual suspect.

Thanks, I'm staying with Avast.

I'm not so down on MSE - I use it on all my computers, but I'm careful.

Updated the video driver, and Bing still is bonkers but only using IE. My IE I set to update newer versions automatically.

I guess I am getting rid of in favor of something else. It also loads the graphics veeeeery slowly.

If you have a better search engine, I am game. Until then, it will be Google.

Thanks,

Daniel
