Microsoft Office (Map Point 2001) and DCOM 1

I've recently put together a COM object for Microsoft MapPoint in order to dynamically select specific maps for all of our stores. It works great in VB6 and as a VB script on the local machine. It even works great across our LAN. However, when I try to access it on the Internet, it takes FOREVER and the DCOM server times out. Is there any way to utilize MS Office on the Web without it being so slow?
