Microsoft's OCS is very impressive and offers many of the features/services my company wants. However, it's not ready to replace the PBX - yet. What do you guys think of installing a basic digital phone system to provide core PSTN access and survivability, and overlying it with OCS for the bells and whistles? With so much used digital gear out there, what's the best buy? Am I crazy to even consider this approach?

Avaya IP Office works with OCS, but Avaya's VoiceMailPro and other things do work better and are better to manage for the Administrator/User.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

I maintain a customer with OCS running parallel with a Nortel Norstar system with 96 users. Systems are interfaced with a Dialogic box running PRI between them.
Seems to work quite well. Users can use their phone or PC to make/take calls.
Has reduncy if M$ fails. Fun site.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. What model gateway are you using? Could I contact you directly to tap into your experience with this config?

We have Microsoft OCS running with Aastra (former Ericsson) MX-One ver. 3.2. It works well and stable.
