Not sure if this is a fact, but it is rather annoying for those people who have slaved away getting their certification upgraded before the deadline...

News Flash:
Microsoft Makes Sweeping Changes To Its Certification Program
================================================================

(10/11/01) - Microsoft will make a public announcement today that will radically change the shape of its existing certification program.

The biggest bombshell: MCSEs certified on the Windows NT 4.0 track will NOT be de-certified after December 31, 2001, as was previously indicated. Instead, Microsoft is going to recognize two distinct MCSE categories: "MCSEs on Microsoft Windows 2000" and "MCSEs on Windows NT 4.0".

If anyone knows any more - please let us know.

So will the tests be available for NT4 again? Any thoughts? James Collins

I'd have said not as they wouldn't want to encourage more people to qualify in NT4, but they will need to keep the 70-240 upgrade exam going to keep the Nt4 people heading up to 2000.

But this is Microsoft so anything can happen.

If you check the Microsoft site you will see that the NT 4 core exams will remain discontinued. You will also see that the final date for taking the accelerated exam 70-240 is 31 Dec 2001.

Yea I know. It is bad. At least we can keep our current certifications. :)

I would hope to be able to keep my current certification - I have spent months upgrading it to the 2000 track so I would be an early achiever... LOL

Here it is March 2002 and no NT MCSE for me...(I'm one elective away- now that I need to update my resume I really could use it) Can I STILL get it..... anyone?

THanks

I DO plan to move on the 2000 MCSE after I get the NT... IF I can. Net Admin.

Blake,

Most of your NT exams will need upgrading to 2000. You may have a chance to do the 240 exam as a one off, but its not friendly for most people (I loved it but I'm SAD). Do the individuals 210, 215, 216 and 219 or whatever they are.

Depending on the one elective you have, you may be safe on it. For the other elective pick one that isn't being retired.

2000 exams should stay current for at least 3 years. Next wave of exams were beta testing last I saw and because the architecture remains the same, shouldn't require much work from 2000 to .Net / XP / whatever is next...

If you are certified on 2000 you are automatically certified for XP. Which means Win2000 MCSE's are certified untill 2008
