I've got one of those old 5 button MS intellimouse (the one incorrectly pictured in [link]http://www.dayintechhistory.com/dith/2-30-years-microsoft-mouse/[/url]). For the past year or so, ever since I switched to W7, the debounce seems to have gone weird.

Say I'm playing something on media player. I move the mouse over to the albums to view something and try to select one tune and suddenly, the playlist has been replaced by every tune in the album. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

If I select a block of text, when I release the button, the whole selection disappears. Sometimes I have to do this about 5 times or change the selection from bottom to top. For instance, changing the http reference to a link above took 3 attempts. It just kept deselecting. Then it kept on selecting one of the fullstops and wouldn't let go until I clicked outside the browser and in the box again.

I've had this mouse since 2002. Is it easy to take it apart to clean the switches or do something to stop this problem. I can't see any screws underneath. I don't like the feel of the newer mice - the click is either not solid enough or requires too much force.

Have you contemplated that it's just plum wore out and not fixable. You've definitely gotten your money's worth out of it. Try to move on. Mice are disposable items vs. repairable. If you've blown it out and rubbed off any dirt on the rollers, I don't know what else you can do. Ebay?

Just had a thought: went into the mouse settings on the machine. The default setting is for relatively fast clicks. Being an old timer, I don't click that fast. I slowed it down and woo-hoo!! I can actually select things more easily now. Just never dawned on me that it would be that simple.
