Hi all

Anyone got any idea how to get money running on Vista. I'm trying to restore stuff held on my XP machine to the Vista machine and all I get is you do not have permission to write to the file no matter where I try and save it down to on Vista. Many thanks.

Eddie

Can you be a little more specific as to the problem you are having?

Do you have money installed?

What version of Money is it?

Is the file that you are trying to save to the vista machine the money backup file? If so are you having the same problem with other files?

Are you running as an admin or limited user?

Hi Greg

I've installed Money 2005 on the Vista machine (the same as on the XP machine). On the opening screen of money on Vista I'm using file, restore backup from a back up file using a ubs key. I'm admin as I'm the only one that uses the machine. I've just found from Microsoft that they may have a fix for this, but I'm confused as to how they've built such security in that it doesn't even work with their own products.

I also cannot install creative labs, zen micro software, getting the blue screen of death.

At the moment Vista seems to me to suck.....

Thanks Eddie

Surprisingly there are several of Microsofts own products that do not work correctly on Vista, especially the more recent ones.

I'm unsure as to why you would not be able to get the file off the USB key. Only thing I can think of is if the UBS key way formatted as NTFS. If so try taking ownership of the files as per instructions below

1) Right Click on the File or Folder that you wish to take ownership of and select properties from the menu that appears.

2) Click on the Security Tab > Click on the Advanced Button

3) Click on Owner Tab > Click on Edit button that has a pic of the Windows Shield

4) Confirm UAC warning that appears

5) has rest of instructions

Thanks Greg and Linney I'll give it a go. I'll be back...where did I last hear that.

All the best Eddie

Can you clarify what has been fixed (if anything) and what problem remains?

Hi Linney the zen micro works with the firmware upgrade. Still can't get microsoft money to work even with playing with permissions.

Have you tried this? The fact that they have written an article about Money and uninstalling/re-installing it suggests that there may be problems with this program above that experienced by other programs.

How to remove and reinstall Microsoft Money

Thanks Linney

I'll try at the weekend and be back.
