Hello,

is it possible to connect to a Dbase IV File with the Microsoft Jet Database Engine while the system is running ?
If I try to read the a Dabse file right now I get the error message that the file is opened exclusiv by another user. But I can copy the file without any problems and the clipper aplications use this file with more than one user too.

I tried to find any configuration tool to make the Jet Engine open it anyway but I couldn't find anything.

Thank you for your help

Hi Howard,

I notice that no one gave a reply, so I will share what little I know. AFAIK, all .DBF files contain a section in the file header that indicate whether the table is open and used in a shared environment (LAN). MS Jet's Engine acts like another dbase program and looks at this particular section in the file header and reports that it cannot obtain an exclusive lock. Note that these locks are not dependant on the operating system, especially an Windows OS, since during the dos days, usually only only program was ran at time (with a couple of TSR's in the background).

I have ran into this dead end and I have not found anything that can do what you are asking for. If you do find something, please be sure to share with us.

Good Luck,

Johnny
