Hello,
We have multiple locations and each location has an independent windows domain (These domains are not in same Forest). The problem is if a user is travelling to some other site he can not print to the local printer as all the users do not have accounts at all the locations. We will be eventually merging all these domains in one domain so this problem will go away. For now, I thought to use Internet Printing (IPP). I have configured IPP on our Windows 2003 server (which is also a print server). I am now able to install a printer from my XP (SP1) desktop using as an administrator and also as a Domain User.
Now, if I try to add printer on a machine which is not part of this Domain as a regular user, I get below error
"
Printer Installation Failed
You do not have enough privilege to complete the printer installation on the local machine."
If I login to a machine as an administrator which is not part of this domain and try to add a printer then I am able to install the printer.
It looks to me that there is some policy which is preventing a regular user to install printer driver from a remote domain.
I have disabled following from default domain policy from the domain from which a regular user is not able to add printer from a remote domain using IPP.
- Disallow installation of printer using kernel-mode drivers.
- Disabled: Point and print restrictions.
- Disabled: Prevents users from installating printers drivers.
Any one has seen this before. Please let me know if you need more information.
