Is it possible to set Win10 Pro file explorer so that it defaults to <View><List> for displaying folder contents permanently? I can set it, but it reverts to something else later in the day. It doesn't seem to hold the setting. Something in the registry? Thanks

Dik

When you use View and the obvious buttons the setting applies only to the folder that you are viewing at the moment.

To change for all folders go to the right and use Options | View.

Thanks mint... all the boxes are checked or not checked as they should be... problem persists. I suspect there is a registry setting at play here.

You may try this registry tip, as stated, it refers to windows versions 7 to 10 too.

Thanks, I'll try it out... and let you know.

Great website, too... thanks.

I am interested in doing the same thing, but am hesitant because it all looks so foreign to me.[ ] Please do let us know how you go, Dik.

The article specified by Combo has a sort-of footnote concerning a further workaround required if you have more than 5000 directories.[ ] This adds to my general feeling of paranoia.[ ] On my Win-10 (64-bit) machine I have two physical disks.[ ] My C: holds only system-type stuff, and my D: contains only all my working data.[ ] Drive D: contains about 1500 folders and subfolders.[ ] Drive C: however contains about 25,000.[ ] When I discovered this little fact my paranoia level shot into the red zone.[ ] Any thoughts, anyone?

Yes I will... up to my... in gators right now... have two pressing projects and I don't like messing with my computer when I'm using it... The article at the link looks excellent and makes sense... not really into registry stuff, but have done a bit and the explanations make sense. I'll let you know and you can give combo a deserved BPS.

Deniall... doesn't seem to work...

Many thanks, Dik.[ ] Your experimentation has saved me, and probably other Tek-Tippers, some grief.

There has to be a similar patch that works... will delve into it a bit more...

Thanks... will give it a try...
