I need to know if NT's version of Microsoft Exchange can be used with workstations that run Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro? ....or if you know of any software that can be used with Windows NT Server allowing chat or messages within the domain that is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP?

Please could you be more clear about what you are asking.

Exchange 5.5 will run on Windows NT 4 Server and Windows 2000 Server only. Exchange 2000 and 2003 requires Windows 2000 or 2003 Server and Active Directory.

No versions of Exchange will run on Windows NT 4 Workstation, 2000 Pro or XP.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients will happily connect to all versions of Exchange using Outlook 2000/XP/2003.

Are you talking about the client? The old version of MS Mail was also call Microsoft Exchange, I think. If you have the old install files, I don't see why it wouldn't run on the newer version of Windows. I've never tried it, but this is one way to find out.
