Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server Setup-Directory Replication Error

Does anyone know the solution for the following error
"An internal error has occurred during directory replication.Stop and then restart the directory service.Then try directory replication again"

I've done it from ControlPanel-Services.I've even start the service auto.

any help will be great

Check the authentication-retype the adminstrators password and username- or Server name of your exchange or run the Optimizer.

When i received this error, Exchange is not completed.
Do i have to run optimizer om my original Exchange server?
