Has anyone ever successfully used Microsoft DHCP for phones instead of Mitel 3300 integrated DHCP?

Thanks,

GNR

Yes, Just follow the directions in the Tech Handbook. If you only have one network or one VLAN, it will work good.

At my company, we insist that the Mitel system and phones be on their own VLAN. The Windows server is used in these applications as well. The IP set will first get a DHCP from the Windows DHCP server. In the options that are handed out, put in the VLAN ID option. Once the set receives this option, it will release the Windows DHCP provided address and will query for another DHCP address on the VLAN of the Mitel phone system. Then I have the Mitel provide the DHCP to the sets.

If you only want to use the Windows server for all VLANs, there should be steps in the Tech Handbook. I prefer to use the DHCP from the Mitel for the sets as I have more control over things, but I guess that is up to the customer.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

We're doing like Paterson for the main reason that we have 60+ vLans already on the network (for departmentalizing business units).

The sets work as Paterson said, first pulling an address from the Data vLan, then re-requesting and getting his operating address from the 3300 on the voice vLan.

IMO this really is the way to go.
