I'm trying to write a proposel so my boss will help out with the costs of certifcation training and I want to include when the certifcations expire and possiblely renewing them but Mircosoft's website isn't helpful. Can you tell me or point me to the information. (Note: I can't read legalease).

Thanks in advacnce

The certs are good for life; but I think Matt meant to say that being certified in NT 4.0 may not be as valuable as W2K or 2003 Server...

Setnaffa is an MCP-W2K (working on W2K) with a few other certs, too...

No, I meant when they were going to retire the MCSE NT4 cert. M$ was going to try and force everyone to upgrade to 2k and not recognize NT4 anymore, until enough people raised Cain with them that they changed their minds. But that doesn't mean that they can't decide to do that again....
Good old M$...

Thanks,

Matt Wray

Thank you both a bunch. That will be good news in the proposal. :)

I don't know if this would be inappropete or not but this seems like the best place to ask.

I currently have the following sections in my proposal, is there I'm missing, some I need to take out? I'm basicly looking for gaping holes. :) Thank you again in advance.

Goal
Benefits for the Employer
Benefits for the Employee
Cert Path
What each class covers
Teaching Method
Cost Break down
Reccomended Action

well, _you_ need to do some research at the MS site, look for three training vendors in your geographic area (three quotes will make you look really professional), and put it in a Word document with all of the detail and a Powerpoint presentation with the main 3-5 bullet points per section...

I could do it for you; but I'd need to charge... ;-)

I believe the premium certs (MCSE, MCDBA, MCSD, etc) are 'good for life' with the qualifier what they cover - MCSE Win2k - but plain old MCPs still expire 1 year after the exam retires. It's been about a year since I looked into this though...

I would recommend buying some transcenders for the courses to get whoever used to taking the test (it's almost like the real test and in some cases is just like it). Have them take good thourough notes to use for studying. If they don't get the training kit for their courses then you should also purchase the MS training kits for any MS tests, and Administrator books would do fone from what I here about Novell certs(which can be purchased used for cheap on amazon.com, i think it was amazon anyway). Classes don't always give the whole deal into the operating system or service functions, which can lead to false confidence for taking the tests. With taking the courses and using the transcedners though, they're almost guaranteed to pass.

So I would put in an onsite training materials section
Maybe even set up MCTs to come in to train them if possible, that would be better than a regular course actually due to comforts of a familiar environment, etc.

also, i doubt M$ will go back to saying that NT4 MCSEs are null and void and require an upgrade to 2k or 2k3 because of all the legal issues they have....besides, it's still recognized in the business world as NT4 is still rampant (hopefully not for too much longer...)

I've submitted the proposal and it passed the first step(my direct boss). Yea! :)

The class does use trancenders, inconjunction with MS circ, research projects, hands on, and other online reading. It's also covering Win2k.

Thank you all for your responses, they were helpful.
