We are Running Microsoft Backoffice Small Business Server. In this product we are using the proxy server for ISP connection. The problem I am having is the system dials out without anyone making a request for Internet access. It seems to randomly connect. How do I stop that from happening an make it access on demand only?

Is it version 4.0 or 4.5?
Are you running Exchange Server to get external E-mail?

Look in "Microsoft Exchange Administrator"
click on the Folders along the left side
find "Configuration"
then "Connections"
you will see "Internet Mail Service" on the right
Open it
click the "dial up connections" tab
Are there any times to dial?
If so uncheck any "Available connections" in the list shown below.
Make sure that you specify the number of redial attempts under your user preferences (dial-up connection). It especially applies to Exchange, where your server is trying to connect to the ISP and cannot connect for some or other reason - it will keep on trying till it reaches this setting
