Hi all,

We have a Win2k server set up using Metaframe. We have all the licenses for the individual users correctly (10 TS and 10 Citrix), but I want to know if we install a copy of MS Visio on the box, and limit it to one concurrent logon, do we need a visio license for each person who will use it, or just one total?

Also, if we were to put one license of Visio on a Windows XP pro desktop and have the users remote desktop in to that computer, would we need one license or one for each?

Thanks in advance

Danny

If you have one license, then ONLY one user should be able to use at ONE time, so I suggest to install the license on the server where you will install visio, and limit to ONE concurrent user.
Its like if you install visio with one license on a desktop, any one in your office can work on this desktop where one licese is installed.

Newbie000,

Thanks for the information. Do you have a source that I can show my manager. Apparently he talked to one of his friends at another company, and they said that Microsoft doesn't care about how many users are on at at time, it is the total number of users. If you have anything that proves you are correct (which I think is), I would appreciate it. I cannot find anything definitive one way or the other.

Thanks,

Danny

sorry for late reply. For this you have to contact your local microsoft rep. Logically, microsoft WONT let unlimited ammount of users to access concurrently on their VISIO program with JUST one license !!!

Newbie000,

Apparently you misunderstood my last post. What I was saying was that my manager's friend said that Microsoft doesn't take concurrency into account. According to that source, if we put Visio on the server, with only one license, only one person can use it. Not only one person can use it at a time, only one specific person can use it. If we wanted 5 different people to use Visio, even one at a time, we would need 5 licenses. Which seems ridiculous to me, since as you said, we could put it on one client machine and have everyone go to that computer.

Do you have any sources that backup your statement in the first post? As I said, after hours of searching, I cannot find anything difinitive either way.

Thanks,

Danny

Sorry, I did misunderstand you ! Frankly, you better contact microsoft rep as we also have many time trouble with their licensing system.
