I am using Access 97 in a Novell network. My problem is that I can not repair or compact the database because I always get the message that another machine or even my machine is using it. In fact, I am the only person working on it. I found out that even no one is using the database in the network, the database’s “Microsoft Access Record-Locking Information” – the .ldb file, still shows up in the Windows Explorer. What can I do now? Is this a database problem or network problem? Thank you.

Can you delete the .LDB file.
If not try rebooting the machine which the .ldb file is on and then see if you can delete it.
If its a Server you may have to wait for a convenient time to reboot.

Also make a .MDE when everything is OK
by clicking Tools, Database Utilities, Make .MDE
This will eliminate corruption in the future.
There is another Thread here somewhere on .MDE's
look in thread
"does access need split tables - getting lock ups & errors"
which is just below here
for more .MDE info
