Hi all,

I have tried googling this topic using: "Report Design Hang", "Access Hang", "Access Stops Responding", "Access +Report +Slow" and this form using "Report Design Slow", "Access Slow", "Access Hang", "Access Freeze", "Database Freeze" and I couldn't fine anything regarding my deviation.

When I am modifying my report in design view, the database hangs for about 3 seconds, every 5 seconds, during this time, I can't move my mouse at all, but anything I click while it is frozen is selected when the database resumes.

I have tried looking in my process list, and ending all tasks that I can, and no improvement.

I have also tried compiling all of my modules, to no avail. The report has no module, but the hang still happens when I open a clean version of the database and open the report in design mode before any of my database code has executed.

The only last thing that I can think of may be the fact that the database is on a corporate network, although this has never happened before, and surely shouldn't affect performance during design time.

Any help that anyone could give me would be gladly appreciated, I will share updates with the group if I find a solution within the meantime.

Regards,

Toby Rodriguez

Have you tried importing your objects into a new database and seeing if that helps? I wasn't quite sure from reading your post if you had tried this.

Also, what version are you using. It sounds like XP, but would probably help to know.

I am using Microsoft Office Access 2003 (11.5614.5606)

Thanks for the advice about importing into a new DBase, I will try that now.

Issue Resolved with PaulBricker's response.

Importing all objects into a new database worked! (File > Get External Data > Import)

Don't forget, if this is the frontend of a database split you will need to link the tables instead of importing them (File > Get External Data > Link Tables)

Remember to import your macros and modules too!

Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.

Great. Hope it stays cleared up. Some of those things can be a real hassle.
Thanks for the star.

Is it possible to edit posts on this forum? The problem has started again about 10 minutes after importing all of the files. Sorry.

Toby

There is no way to edit directly in the thread.
When you Ctl/Alt/Del to get task manager, do you see anything running there? Anything that you are surprised to see. I have not had any real issues with 2003, but I know others who have.

It's possible it's a corrupt record the made it thru the import as well. A field that is required that doesn't have a value in it. Something like that.
You could try importing the tables one at a time, run the new db for a period of time and see if it slows down, then import the next table. It is time consuming, but can be helpful.

Was this ever resolved?

I have similar issues with Access 2000.

I get almost the exact same problem you describe. One thing I've noticed is that, if I copy the back end file to my local drive and link the tables to that, everything runs smoothly.

I have no idea why accessing linked tables over the network causes it to hang in design mode - doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Similar issue with query design mode.
