Can i use some ones else s database but with my codes and dongle. Any help greatly appreciated running 3.2

Sure you can; as long as the codes you have are for version 3 and the foundation code will support the number of workstations you have. If you're working on a network that haas another Micros server running disable the DSM, 3700d and MDS HTTP services before firing up the copied database. Once you have the new database copied in, change the network nodes settings to the new IP scheme and server name, shut down Micros and reboot. I learned the hard way that the MDS HTTP service can and will change the MDSHOSTS.xml file on the source server is on the same network the network nodes aren't changed offline, even if they're running on different subnets. When it comes back up clear totals, enable those services and start them and you'll be good to go.

You may want to reload RES after copying the database if either system is using any Enterprise Office applications, (PM, LM, FM) to make sure all the necessary components are installed.

Make sure you change the Business Settings in the system Tab and the CA/EDC Driver settings in Devices tab.

That being said, if the store you're copying from isn't a similar concept you may want to see if your Micros distributor has a start-up database. They'll generally give you one if they're going to have to provide support.
Clearing out the employee and menu item tables so you can start over is a big royal pain, especially if you aren't comfortable with SQL.
