I need to upgrade the compact flash cards on about 30 ws4 terminals. They have 128 mb cards in them and I need to upgrade them to 256 to run res 4.8. My questions are.... are any cards compatable ? Can I use a larger (1 gb) card ? Does any one know of a source for these ? I am having a real hard time finding them.

My Micros dealer is charging me $75.00 per card if they do the upgrade. I know I should be able to find these cards for around 15 - 25 each!

I have found the same brand (wintec) but the smallest card I can get now is 1 gb

Thanks in advance!
Robert

Hi,
I would suggest trying it, I have faith in it working. Micros charge top dollar for legacy & old things, eg a 2 GB USB key for backups is $75 AUD! You cant buy anything smaller than 4GB these days. Specs are:
The maximum size for the RAM file system is 256 MB, with a maximum size of 32 MB for a single file. However, a database-volume file has a 16-MB limit. The maximum number of objects in the object store is 4,000,000.

Do it and save money.
Plug in & run CAL. Done

I know people have had issues with SanDisk. On the dealer forum most speak of using Wintec and having success. I know there is a list of approved manufacturers, but am not sure where I saw it last.

Moral of the story, buyer beware, understand return policy.

Actually, are you doing a system upgrade? (say to some RES4 version?) Because if so you may need to be upgrading the CAL version & platform / engine also. Look at the wallpaper on teh WS4, and it will tell you what the ENGINE & PLATFORM versions are.

There are already downloads for those other posts

we are upgrading from 3.2 to 4.8......
Our dealer is doing the upgrade but if I can save 4-500 per
store doing my own flash cards I would rather do it myself.

Update:

For kicks I bought a Transcend 256 Mb Compact flash card online for $20.00 Installed it and it works great. If any one is curious the part # is: TS256MCF100I-P

Just bugs me paying Micros $75.00 per card when I can do it for $20 each..... I figure it will save me $1200.00 + on the ugrades.
I understand the need to make a profit but come on.........
