MICROS WS Shutdown (3700)

I have a situation where after my client's It department did a back up of the server (not by protocol) the workstations started freezing and then shut down. Now there is a message trying to find server.

Any ideas?

firstly: Open configurator and check the server name & IP, check this against the actual name & IP.

Secondly check cabling / network settings. Can the WS ping the server or and the other way

Thirdly check if firewall or antivirus could be stopping connections
