micros ws 5 printers

what kinds of printers are there? i have a micros build using epson tm-u220b printers. is there such thing as idn printers that only plug into the back of the idn slot of the workstation, and are there network printers that need there own ip address, or are there network printers that can plug into the idn slot on the back of the worskstation?

Hi.

The Epson TM-u220b printer can have different boards to interface to Micros with. They are basically:

Serial (RS232) through COM1. The board has a standard serial plate with I 25 pins

IDN which is another serial technology, this is through COM4 and has an interface board with dip 7 switches. The key difference is that IDN allows daisychaining of up to seven printers on one run.

IP printing is via an IP board, and is therefore interfaced via the Newtork.

There for no, there are no IP printers that connect from the IDN ports at the back of the WS5. Also, do not mistake the COM5 port as an additional IDN port.

well i definately appreciate your help on the matter. this got confusing because we ordered the same build as a previous micros build but they sent us different printer setup. so i have a network printer that i had plugged into the idn slot of the ws5, which was incorrect, and plugged it into its own jack connected to the switch. i have since fixed this and was wondering if you guys could help in programming it into the back office. im assuming i have to go to the pos configurator, find the printer, and adjust the settings? what should the settings be? tcp/ip interface? tm-u200 roll? then under then enter the ip address of the printer? along with port?

You need to go to poscfg-> devices->devices and either create or modifify an exiting printer under the printer properties select TCP/IP tupe and select the correct Printer type then go to the printer interface and give it the IP address that you wish to use on that printer.

Also i dont remember off the top of my head but when i was setting up the printers i didnt have the software to communicate with the printer in order to change the factory settings i was able to change the default IP address on the printer by setting up another computer with the same address then i was able to access the gui interface of the printer itself. Print a test page from the printer and you will see the default ip address something like 192.168.1.2 andif you set another computer with a similar IP address lets say 192.168.1.1 you should be able to access the web interface on that printer by typing 192.168.1.2 and then go into configuration then click on TCP/IP then change the get IP address from automatic to manual and then set the ip address for the device once you hit summit the device will appear on your network.

Note if you have the software that came with the printer it might be easier to set it to that way. Also if you choose to use the instruction above you will need to use another computer that is not running any micros programs in order to avoid problems. Hope that helps

Hi,

to print a test page for an IP printer, power off the printer. Set dipswitch 1 to on only. Power on and the IP will print. To configure / set the printer, power off again, turn on dipswitch 4 only. Change your NIC IP to the same range. Connect by direct cable and browse to the printer IP..

Dont turn on DS 4 and have the printer on a DHCP network, as the IP can be set by the DHCP server
