Does anyone have experience with directing/re-directing print jobs to a specific printer device within a sim?

The project is to have orders alternate between two KDS controllers when a specific condition exists. Each controller serves an area that is identical to the other and when volume or manager dictates, both become active and complete checks alternate between each controller(display).

From what I can see micros core product does it by type of prep station or posts to multiple displays but is then a manual process to "claim"(color code) an order.

Any help or suggestions appreciated!

Hi,

What version are you running? The easiest way to think of a KDS for me is to think of it as a printer. So like I can have a coffee go to a printer, I can just as easily have it go to 2 printers.
In wanting to make things as easy as possible, have you thought of looking at KITCHEN THEMES? The concept of Kitchen Themes is as follows:
scene 1: Breakfast hours all foods go to the LARDER printer regardless of the food type, he is the only chef on.
Scene 2: Lunch time comes & LARDER printer now gets COLD LARDER print jobs & DESSERTS while GRILL section gets its plus PANS.
Scene 3: Its evening now & there are 4 sections & 4 printers going. They are LARDER, PANS, GRILL, DESSERT all separately.

Each of the scenes is a setting you have created in Themes.
Kitchen themes controls all the print devices & handles redirections etc all based on preset schemas. Turning it on will initially disable all your order printing until it is configured for the current schema.
Once turned on I dont think it can be turned off. (pretty sure).

On the flipside, you could look at any printing SIM and the DTEN that it prints to, there is no reason why it couldnt be a KDS. But you need to know SIM...
