I am currently running RES 3700 V4.11 on Windows XP from a previous concept. Is their any sense in upgrading to a newer version and Windows 7 or 8? Currently getting a "Printer Communication Failure" error when sending tickets to the kitchen printers. All of the cabling has been verified to be good. Should I just go with a new system? Looking for the most cost effective solution.

Need help!!!

How many terminals? If you don't process credit cards through the Micros POS and don't surf the web with the POS computer then little reason to upgrade. BUT OMG the kitchen printer doesn't print and you're asking if you should get a new system! Call the local Micros Dealer and have them fix it. Flat tire doesn't equal new car.

Thanks for the reply. I have 3 workstations and a back office system. My inquiry as to a new system pertained to the cost associated with a operating system and version upgrade. Would it make financial sense?

If you're doing credit cards in the POS then Yes, upgrade and budget for future upgrades. What did Micros quote you to upgrade the system?

You do want to be PCI compliant and get on Windows 7 ASAP. Micros will charg you for a new PC, RES 5.0 software codes, labor, 1 years worth of help desk and if your workstations are the old WS4's then they need to be replaced also. We have switched most of our Micros customer to PAR PixelPoint because we don't have all the upgrade bologny that comes from Micros. We can use some of your existing hardware and give you trade in value for your workstations/cash drawers, etc.

The printer communication issue should be an easy fix. Is it an IP printer? or IDN? You can contact us for more help if you want. That's what we do for 8 years. Micros 3700 support.
