We recently upgraded our Micros RES system from 4.8 (I think) to 5.0. Everything seems to be working fine, all my sales, pricing, is functioning properly; however, I am unable to access any of the manager functions (Dashboard and the like) from any of the workstations out front. I can access the manager functions from the back office RES just fine, but when I attempt it from the workstations out front, we get the message, "fail to detect server IP." When the tech did the upgrade and installed the new WS5As (three in total), he mentioned that this was a problem he most often encountered with these upgrades. I would not let him leave our site until I was able to access the manager functions. The following morning, the end of day autosequences ran with no issues but all the work stations displayed "System Closed." We rebooted the back office computer and everything came back on line. However, now I cannot access the manager functions again.

Any suggestions? I am working with my company's help desk to resolve the issue; however, the last time I experienced a problem with our POS I ultimately discovered the source of the problem (an check held open on the crashed workstation that had to be force closed in order to get the DB to load properly) and told the help desk guy. Needless to say, I felt pretty cool.

I have combed through the existing threads here and have not yet found anything related to my problem. I am hoping to school the help desk again... any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Brandy

Manager Procedures is a web page from the workstations that lives on your back office computer. It sounds like something didn't get configured properly during your upgrade to point the workstations at your back office computer.

Do you know which kind of WS5A you have? Does it show an XP boot screen?

The back office computer was upgraded from XP to Windows 7. The workstation at our cashier stand says Windows 2009. The other workstations (that are brand new from the look of them) appear to have the same screen when they are starting up as they had before the upgrade. (I don't know if that indicates anything or not.) But there is nothing that says XP when they are starting.

I thought the whole point of the upgrade was pci compliance and because XP wasn't supported any longer... Although, chances are I am wrong (that's why I posted my question here: go to the people who know what I do not know right?!)

Thanks again!

There's a version of XP called "POSReady2009" that will be around until 2019 - it's still supported, unlike XP.

I'd probably have your Help Desk start by updating the Hosts file inside of POS Configurator (Devices -> Network Node -> Update Hosts File) first. If that doesn't get it, make sure you're using the right Workstation type on that same page - Workstation4 is for all Windows CE devices (older WS5As), Workstation is for POSReady2009 and newer.
