Dear all

My Micros system is very slow, the server specifications are as follows

Operating System Microsfot Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Service Pack 2
Processor Intel Xeon dual core 2.4 GHz
RAM 4 GB
Disk Drive Operating System 100 Gb free space 88.2 Gb
Micros 1.72 Tb free space 1.23 Tb

the Micros specifications are as follows

Database 2.5 Gb size
Micros Res POS 3700 Version 4.9

What I can modify in Micros or database to improve system performance?

Thanks

What is it slow doing?

Picking up checks?
Closing Checks?
Running Reports?

Try and elaborate further on what exactly you are experiencing.

CathalMF Thank you.

Slow processes are

Closing Checks
Picking up checks
Load of system (Control Panel)
Purge Historical Totals

Its possible the check purge is running behind schedule so the database is filling up with old check detail.

Have a read of this and follow the instructions and see if it helps.
Also what is the size of your micros.db and micros.log. They're usually located in D:\Micros\Database\Data

Cathal MF thanks again.
You can solve the problem of the purges, but the Micros still very slow. I did rebuild several times and have not corrected anything.
What other recommendations can offer me?
Is it wise to change any parameter in the database engine?
Is it wise to increase the hardware? ....... Is there any metric that you can follow?

The purge can have a direct impact on the slowness of the whole system. Have you resolved the purge?

You didnt answer my question regarding the micros.db and micros.log sizes

Yes. The purge is resolved. The check detail stored is of last 14 days.

The sizes are

micros.db 2.5 Gb
micros.log 4 Mb

at 2.5GB database i expect you're a fairly busy location?

Next i suggest you check the performance of your server.
During a quiet period and after you confirm the system is slow check the following values.

1. CPU usage. Open the windows task manager and at the bottom you will see the CPU Usage. It should be jumping between 0-20%. If its consistently higher than this then have a look on the Processes tab and see what processes are using the most CPU.

2. RAM usage. On the task manager you should also see a value beside CPU for memory.Whats its value. If you're using alot more than your 4GB ram then this could cause your system to be slow.
