Wildbar is right, however I ran into issues of the discount not always applying properly to the check and customers accusing us of false advertising. I've had more luck using menu levels and have the menu level change per day with the prices adjusted accordingly.
@CForbes after 20+ years of using menu levels for happy hours and daily specials we have just moved over to using discounts for these functions (discounts were pretty basic back in version 3700 version 1) We find using discounts far more flexible, especially if running multiple price changes in one day. With menu levels we needed to line up our daily drink specials with the same price as the happy hour price as the happy hour menu would override. Also you were not sure if you were actually getting the discount using menu levels. Using discounts you can have the discount show up on the server review and the check to ensure the customer has received it. Just some info.
@Wildbar I would love that functionality. Unfortunately we are using an older version of 3700 and my owner is unwilling to upgrade. It seems that when we use automatic discounts, especially for something like Happy Hour which can have 1000+ drinks an hour discounting, that the system just can't keep up and inaccurately applies the discounts. Auto Menu Levels are the best solution I've found, we used to have an auto-sequence but all terminals would be inaccessible for ~5 minutes during the changeover with an auto-sequence.
The autosequence effectively removed all regular priced drink menu items and replaced them with happy hour priced drink menu items. Very similar to a menu level change but with new items. The change of ~60 items took a lot of time to update and loading screens would appear on every POS terminal until it was finished updating.
