Does anyone know if there is a way to print to a Micros printer from another application? I am thinking 3700 terminals specifically. I assume Micros "locks" the printers, just like Aloha and Positouch.

I have an application that supports both Windows Printers and OPOS drivers.

If the Micros printers are setup with OPOS drivers, will they allow my application to send a print job via OPOS?

Aloha has a utility to send a text file to a printer.

Does Micros have anything like that? Or is it possible to upload an XML file to be sent to a prep/check printer?

Any ideas would be helpful. I am looking for a way to send a print job to a receipt printer.

Thanks.

There's no direct access to the printers outside of POS Operations that I know of. This is proabably because the 3700 printers are run by the workstations instead of the servers.

I'd try dumping it as a text file onto the Micros server and then picking it up and printing it through a SIM idle event. You can write it so that only one workstation, or the server, will do the processing. Using the server will probably keep the lag time to a minimum.

Micros also introduced an API interface a little while ago. I haven't used it or really looked into it, but you may be able to get some printing going that way.

OPOS drivers are meant to make the printer available on the network to any OS. Remember that this therefore requires IP boards and IP addresses.
