Hi,
i am new to this strange world so hope my questions won t be too stupid (hopefully stupidity is not a deadly sickness (belgians used to have dark humor))

So...
One of my friend bought some Micros Pos Workstation 4 somewhere and left me the pleasure to find if it was possible to use them in his bar... problem; he didn t of course look if they where working and of course he s not using the e7 software for its bar but something local (MaxiRest, Argentina)...

He thought the os was windows XP and it would be possible to install something like VNC to be able to connect to its maxirest server...

From what i saw, its windows CE... tried to make remote connections or even connect to a share on the server and it of course didn t work...

So as i don t really need the e7 stuff, i was thinking on how it would be possible to install or another windows CE, or another operating system (as i found a video on youtube with a Micros Pos running linux but not explaining how it was done...)

Someone has any clue or a way to make a new nk.bin file that the WKS would install ?...

Thanks

PS it is in such cases i am happy to have changed from IT guy to craft brewer... ;-)

What you're trying to accomplish is far too much work.
The WS4 was released in 2003, its ancient. It is barely even capable of running the most recent version of the Micros RES platform nevermind something which is designed for a XP machine.

I suggest you just tell your friend to sell on the hardware again and buy something new.
If you really like the Micros style devices you could get a Micros WS5A which runs Microsoft PosReady (Basically XP). Be aware they also have a WindowsCE version of the WS5A.

Or you could save yourself a whole lot of money and just run your software on a desktop pc and buy some touchscreen displays.

Do you want some custom SIM scripts developed. Contact me via my website

Desktop PC is the easiest and stress free option, like @CathalMF said. You can find some pretty decent All in One touch screens for half the price of a Micros Workstation. I'll post a link to ones we use where I work.

Update
This one is pretty decent.
