Our restaurant currently runs a Micros POS 3700 system and I was wondering if I could use any magnetic card as a substitute swipe card.

I tried using my grocery store card, library card, anything with a magnetic strip and it would give me an error when I tried to assign it to an ID. We have plenty of Micros cards but I was just looking for another way to have employees swipe card (since we constantly change servers and it would be a waste to assign our card and have them walk off with it).

Thanks in advance.

Are you getting an "entry to large" error?

The employee id field only allows 10 digits while most membership card accounts are 12 or more. If you have a card with 10 or less digits you should be able to use it.

From what I vaguely remember, the Micros employee cards are encoded in a non-standard format. It's easily duplicated but you will need a card encoder or you'll need to have someone encode them for you.

Various gift card providers (the people that print and encode the actual plastic as opposed to gift card service providers) can probably do it for you but the lowest quantity I've seen is 500 cards and the pricing is probably more than your paying your Micros dealer for the clerk cards (maybe not?).

Hope this helps.
