Anyone have experience with connecting to a wireless network from an old 3700 system on Windows NT. I don't need the Micros program to connect, just the computer.

I can see the network but it won't connect. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Micros network that is set up. Can the system handle two networks?: the micros ethernet network, then another wireless network?

More info: when I go into the cmd prompt it gives me an ethernet ip address and a couple other - can't remember what they are called, but I think they just return zeros and 255.255.... It doesn't show any wireless addresses.

Hi,

it sounds like you need to resolve networking problems, once that is resolved you can look at connecting Micros and then Micros problems.
Who programmed the access point, and does it point to the Micros server? Have you successfully connected your laptop to the wireless network? Use your laptop to set up the network correctly

You should be able to handle 2 networks. Our Micros servers have always had 2 nics, one for a closed network just for the Micros workstations and one for internet access/support.

One thing I always mention in threads like this is PCI compliance. If you're running credit cards through your Micros system be very, very careful about wireless connections. Anything running on NT is out of compliancy already anyway, so you really don't want to risk being compromised. All it takes is one guest complaint about credit card fraud.

I was going to mention it in the original post, but they're not running credit cards on the system so that isn't an issue.

Do I set up the wireless in the Network area like other Windows systems? Do I use the TCI/IP option?

Oh, and there is nothing wrong with the Micros network. I'm just having problems with the wireless, which connects into the printer.

Hi,
You should be fine connecting to the wireless network, the Micros network is on a separate card and subnet. And you could bridge the two networks also...
Standard networking rules apply
What problem are you having? With my sites I found I had a problem where the ISP didnt open a port required for my DLINK router, as they expected me to use their hardware (which used a different port).
Maybe even use a laptop to test the wireless and identify where the system is failing,
good luck
