I have 5 Micros KDS dt166 terminals that freeze on the boot screen. is there a way to fix these or are they dead?

what screen does it freeze on?

You may need to restart the micros kds services in windows services.

I have seen this many times.

The most common issue is due to a USB device plugged in. Unplug all USB devices turn off display controller and turn it back on. Once the kds display is running plug everything back in.

If you don't have any other device attached to the kds controller other than the monitor then you have a dead kds controller.
