Hello all,

I am having a small problem with Micros POS workstations (3700). They freeze when a transaction occurs. Mainly during peak hours and only when trying to communicate with the server; i.e. when one transaction is completed and the new one starts. The delay is about 10-60 seconds, and it does not happen in every transaction - it happens every, approx., 10 transactions.

Anyone has experienced this problem?

FYI, Micros server has enough ram, the network seems to be ok, no error or any information from the Event View logs, and there are about 28 terminals.

I've seen issues similar to what you describe (possibly the same) and the iiisue was attributed to a flaky network connectivity and packets were being lost. Micros is not the most refined or robust application when it comes to low level network communication problems, but then again, many applications will just crash under the same circumstances.

I'm certain other issues could cause the same symptoms, but in my experience, it has always been network issues.

I've seen this happen a few times before. There are two problems with similar symptoms.

1) check the server's bios and make sure hyperthreading is disabled. it wreaks havoc on the 3700's new messaging system.

2) check the dip switches on the check and order printers. not the IDN switches but the ones under the panel on the bottom of the printer. some printers get shipped with the buffer set to 40 bytes instead of 48k.

Hope that helps,
Pat

Thank you for your assistance.
Network is not the problem... I had few network tools that i monitored that. Also, the hyperthreading I have disabled it a while a go, but i will check the dip switches.

Thanks again...
