I am looking at an e7 system that I might want to buy. We are actually willing to re-license the system, but trying to save some money on equipment. We have found what appears to be a good one, but the seller has no passwords for it, and I would like to get in and make sure the system actually works before buying it. I could care less if we must re install the software but I don't know if that will do the trick. Any ideas how to get in and poke around to make sure this is actually a viable system. WS5 terminals, actual software version I don't know. Three terminals, no optional back office computer. 911 is not a login on this system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Close the e7 program on the workstation. Plug a keyboard and mouse into the workstation.

CF\micros\e7\cfg\e7config.txt

If you open this file with a plain text editor on the workstation you should find something similar to:

<add key="UwsObjectNumber" value="1" />

Change value to 6. Save file. Launch e7 again. You will get an error message saying that you need to program a touchscreen. Just hit ok and keep going. Do the same for any other error or warning messages that pop up (though do read anything that gives you an option). It should now take you straight into the Configurator. Once there, just change the top drop down to Employees and set a new password for the super user (typically named Micros, though they might have renamed it).

Once you've reset the password, kill e7 and set the UwsObjectNumber back to whatever it was originally. Save the file and open e7. Should be goo to go.

Thanks Moregelen. I appreciate it. I am also looking, if we get this system, for someone to help with programming the database. I've done it before and know enough to know I don't really want to do it, and I'm not the best at it. Do you or someone you know do stuff like that? Thanks.

You'd be better off getting a database that already has a menu programmed and then modifying it to fit your needs. Programming one completely from scratch is time consuming. Reprogramming a menu in e7 is actually very easy. Setting it up from empty is hard because you have to create every touchscreen, every tender, every job, every class, print group, etc etc etc...

You could probably even handle doing the menu on your own if everything else was already done.
