Micros - Difference between chk_ttl and rpt_ttl columns in Dtl table

Can anyone tell me the differences between the columns chk_ttl and rpt_ttl in the Dtl table? What determines the column that will hold the value and why is the value sometimes the same in both columns and other times completely different?
