Hi

I have installed micros res v4.8 using the following procedure.
V4.0 prerequisite
V4.0 GR
V4.1 prerequisite
V4.3 prerequisite
V4.6 prerequisite
V4.8 cumalitive
I installed this using the shell database.
My question is, I have a v4.8 micros.db copy which I want to restore. I do not have a micros.mbz copy.
Is this possible, and how do I do it ?

unlikely but you never know.

The mbz contains encryption keys used to access the database. If your micros.db backup used the same encryption keys as the shell database then it might let you restore it.

Create a MBZ backup of the shell database. Open the MBZ with 7zip (MBZ is just an archive). Replace the shell micros.db in the mbz with your 4.8 micros.db.

Try and restore it.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I have done what you have suggested. The database started up successfully. I then tried to access the database manager, but an error now pops up.

Database Error: Unknown user name or password.
[Sybase][ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server Anywhere]Invalid user ID or password
Alias: micros.

Ya so basically the encryption keys that get restored contain credentials to access the database.
You have restored invalid credentials so the Micros applications cannot connect to the database.

Do you have any idea that the MICROS database user and the DBA database user passwords were?

Ok heres a bit of a mad suggestion but it might work.

1. Restore the shell database again.
2. Open the DatabaseManager -> Change the DBA and Micros user passwords to the same as on your real database.
3. Backup the shell database with the new passwords.
4. Swap out the Micros.db again.
5. Restore the new mbz
6. Now the registry passwords for DBA and Micros should match your live database.

Thank You CathalMF

I have managed to get the database up. However when I start POS Operations it pops up an error. OpsDbs.cpp

Hi

I am getting the following error when starting "RES"

opsdbs.cpp (9794):
UNEXPECTED DATABASE ERROR
Call Failed

I have inserted the 3700d.log file. Please could you assist with this.

The database might be slightly out of sync with your software version.
Open the database manager and do a database update. They will upgrade your database to the version compatible with your software.
NOTE: It only upgrades. If your database is newer than your software version then you will need to manually update the software.

Have a look in the database table rest_status or maybe its rest_def. One of them has the version of the database. Compare it to your software version.
