Our annual maintenance contract is due now on one of our micros systems.
I am wondering if any micros users out there have opted to drop the annual support contract?
We rarely if ever actually call them. Our old local Micros dealership used to allow us to just go time and materials....

I've been given to understand that Oracle has no time and materials status. If you don't have a contract, they don't answer. I'm not actually positive on that.

I can confirm that. No more time and materials. They are moving everyone to annual maintenance. Apparently if you were on time and materials, they are waiving reinstatement fees for those affected through the transition. I have one location that is on support and one that is not. So I'm trying to decide which way to go with both. Probably end up paying support since I want to continue to have access to resources and software updates.

I see it kinda like health insurance. It sucks when you don't need. It sucks when you need it. But if you don't have it when you need it it's going to cost 100 times more.

This is correct. Plus their support has been crappy since Oracle acquired Micros. I suggest, looking over how often you actually call for support, also check your hardware maintenance. The site I am at no longer uses their hardware support as we do these fixes in house or purchase equipment else where (same equipment, alot less cost).

There are other resources available for micros support that will bill time and materials.

agreed. but those resources may not be authorized to provide software updates which is the main thing we rely on Micros for in the first place. so I wonder, as long as you can get your hands on a software update, are you "allowed" to apply it. probably a rhetorical question with the answer being "no".
